Dog food recalled due to salmonella risk

0

A series of frozen raw dog foods are being recalled due to the presence of salmonella in them.

They are being recalled by the manufacturer Dogs Choice UK.

Salmonella can cause disease in animals and humans, meaning the produce could pose a risk either through handling food or eating from bowls, utensils or animal droppings, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps in humans.

Infected animals, on the other hand, do not necessarily show signs of illness, but symptoms can include diarrhea.

Notices placed in stores selling the food explain the reason for the recall and tell customers what to do if they have purchased the product.

The foods affected are:

Frozen chicken and beef

  • Pack size: 500g
  • Batch code: 080222+2
  • Use-by date: August 8, 2022

Frozen chicken and beef ready meals

  • Pack size: 500g
  • Batch code: 080222+2
  • Use-by date: August 8, 2022

Frozen chicken liver

  • Pack size: 500g
  • Batch code: 080222+2
  • Use-by date: August 8, 2022

Anyone who has purchased any of the above products should not use them, but rather return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund.

When handling and serving raw pet food, it is always advisable to thoroughly clean utensils and feeding bowls after use.

Consumers should wash their hands thoroughly after handling raw pet food, bowls, utensils or after coming into contact with animal feces.

Raw pet food should be kept separate from any food (especially ready-to-eat foods).

Care should be taken when thawing to avoid cross-contamination of food and surfaces.
