Georgia Anagnostopoulou denied her identity as the mother of Caroline’s murderer on camera.
The film crew of the show “Super Katerina” met the mother of Babis Anagnostopoulos and as can be seen in the video, she categorically denied her identity, telling the reporter that she was mistaken and speaking to the wrong person.
The show’s reporter asked about her son Babis. Georgia appeared visibly annoyed and even came to the point of denying that she was his mother.
Dialogue with the journalist:
Georgia Anagnostopoulou: I don’t understand you. Who are you talking to? What did you just call me?
Reporter: Ms. Georgia.
Georgia Anagnostopoulou: You are wrong. You are talking to the wrong person
On the other hand, Alexandros Papaioannidis, defense lawyer of Babis Anagnostopoulos, confirmed that it was the mother of the murderer and explained the reason why she denied her identity to the media team.
“There is no doubt that this is the mother of Babis Anagnostopoulos. She is a troubled mother who is devastated by what has happened to her family,” Papaioannidis said. “The character that this woman showed so far is exemplary.”
Babis Anagnostopoulos is a 33-year-old helicopter pilot from Greece. His family made international headlines after his wife of 20 years, Caroline Crouch, was murdered in their Athens home on May 11, 2021.
He initially claimed they were the victims of a gang robbery, but has since confessed to his murder.
How did he meet Caroline Crouch?
Caroline and Anagnostopoulos began dating when she was a teenager.
The couple are believed to have married in Portugal in 2019.
What happened to Caroline Croupton?
On May 11, 2021, Caroline was allegedly tortured and strangled in front of her 11-month-old daughter at her home in an upscale suburb of Athens.
Police found Caroline’s lifeless body next to her crying daughter later that morning.
Lydia, the couple’s daughter, was not injured.
A police spokesperson said they found Anagnostopoulos handcuffed to the ground near Caroline with duct tape over his eyes and mouth.
The family’s pet husky was also strangled on its own leash and left on a fence.
When did Babis Anagnostopoulos confess?
On June 17, 2021, Anagnostopoulos confessed to murdering his wife after she swore to leave him.
Anagnostopoulos admitted suffocating her after more than eight hours of questioning at the Homicide Department of Athens Police Headquarters.
Authorities said in a statement, “The culprit is her 33-year-old husband who confessed to the act.”
Police described him as a “first class actor” after staging the elaborate crime scene and following the sick masquerade as a grieving widower for more than a month.
The disgraced helicopter pilot even drowned the family dog and hung him up to blame it on the burglars and bolster his story, investigators said.
According to reports, Anagnostopoulos finally broke down, saying, “That night we had been arguing from the start.
“At one point she threw the child into her bed and she told me to get up and leave the house.
“She pushed me and punched me.
“My judgment clouded, I strangled her and then staged the robbery.”
In a text message found on Caroline’s phone, it became apparent that the student had threatened to leave the man she had first met as a teenager just hours before his own murder.
Where is Babis Anagnostopoulos now?
In May 2022, Anagnostopoulos was found guilty of premeditated murder by three full-time judges and four jurors of the Athens Mixed Court.
He was also found guilty of animal abuse and two counts of perverting the course of justice after his elaborate lies were exposed.
Anagnostopoulos was sentenced to life for the premeditated murder of Caroline and is currently in prison.
He was also sentenced to 11 years and six months for brutally killing their dog and fined €21,000.
His lawyer said the verdict was “expected” and the 34-year-old is now expected to live decades behind bars.
