MaArte Fair returns to The Pen

Manila is once again hosting MaArte Fair, the fundraising bazaar to benefit the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, from August 19-21. The mission of the foundation is to raise funds and publicize the National Museum of the Philippines and its network. MaArte’s main theme at The Pen 2022 is to celebrate the Filipino creative soul. MaArte will not only recognize traditional Filipino craftsmanship and design, but will also showcase contemporary Filipino design in fashion, furniture and accessories. Highlights of the fair include clothing and accessories, contemporary furniture and home decor, as well as heirlooms, jewelery and traditional textiles. Part of MaArte is “SLIM at The Lobby: A Special Exhibition”, curated by Mark Lewis Higgins, which will be on view until August 27. The exhibition features a vignette of sets by National Artist for Fashion Design Salvacion Lim Higgins (Slim), with dresses dating from 1952 to the early 1980s. In addition, part of the fair includes a number of conferences which will take place in the Salon de Ning of the hotel. On August 19 (2 p.m.), Sheryl Ebon-Martinez is giving a talk, “A Teapot’s Journey: A Brief History,” about her fascination with tea and how it led her to become a potter at the age of 40. On August 20 (2:00 p.m.), Rita Nazareno (Zacarias 1925) and Gabby Lichauco (Open Studio) of Nazareno/Lichauco will share their insights, experiences, and practices regarding today’s contemporary Filipino craftsmanship and design landscape in a lecture titled “Philippine Design and Craft by Nazareno/Lichauco.” On August 21 (2 p.m.), Mark Lewis Higgins will host a talk entitled “Paris and Manila: A Tale of Two Cities: The Golden Age of Haute Couture on the Opposite Sides.” Admission to the talks is free.

Pawchella: a benefit concert in honor of animal welfare

PAWSSION Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of rescued animals, is hosting a benefit concert on August 20 at Bonifacio Global City to raise funds and awareness for stray animals in the country. The concert will take place at 5e Avenue, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on August 20. Sud, Orange et Citrons, and Bini among others, have agreed to perform for free to support the cause. Although the concert is free, customers can register here at and promise a month’s worth of food, shelter and medicine for 1,500P and access to the VIP area for pawchella and a bottle of bottled coffee from the Stay Up Espresso Bar. Founded in October 2018, Pawssion Project has since sheltered, rescued, neutered and neutered and rehomed over 5,000 animals. The organization is now appealing for funding through various activities to celebrate International Homeless Animals Day (IHAD). NEWPORT MALL’s latest exhibitionFar, Far Away” features a unique collection of toys and artwork by Imagine Nation Studios (INS).
